Story: An orphaned street kid (Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson) makes his mark in the drug trade, but finally dares to leave the violence of his former life behind to pursue a promising career in the music business as a rapper.
It’s becoming more and more common for musicians to try their luck in Hollywood these days. Film and music may be two completely different art forms, but for some (especially those with larger than life egos) it seems easy to make the transition. You can count Will Smith, Beyonce Knowles, Snoop Dogg and Britney Spears among the list of people who have done it, some with great success and others with embarrassingly little.
Now you can add New York’s 50 Cent to the pop-stars-turned-actor list. The P.I.M.P himself will be starring in a movie called Locked And Loaded slated for release in 2005 or 2006. The movie is reportedly about a drug dealer who gives up his life of crime to pursue music. Sounds like a real stretch for a dude who was shot nine times.
Things are still in the preliminary stages right now, but 50 Cent has an all-star production squad working at making it happen. Sopranos writer/executive producer Terrance Winter is writing the screenplay as we speak. Geffen CEO Jimmy Iovine and Eminem manager Paul Rosenberg are responsible for sealing the deal with Paramount and MTV films.
Speaking of Slim Shady, the whole project sounds suspiciously like Eminem’s 8 Mile movie, which was pretty much based on Em's own back story. That project (also put together by Iovine and Rosenberg) raked in major cash at the box office — $117 million dollars U.S to be exact. It also won Em an Oscar and a Grammy for his song "Lose Yourself."
And that’s not the only screen appearance Fiddy will be making. He'll also be on the Simpsons in animated form. The new season of everyone’s favorite cartoon will kick off November 7, but it's unknown when 50 will make his grand entrance.
